Volunteers are the heart of the Reins of Hope organization. In the spring, we offer two consecutive one hour sessions for six weeks. Each session consists of 6 participants. This means that we need a minimum of 16 volunteers to work with the participants for each spring session. In the fall, we offer a single one hour session with 8 participants. Meaning a minimum of 24 volunteers are needed. For each individual participant, we need 3 volunteers. This consists of one handler (lead the horse) and two side-walkers to provide support and security for the participant. Additional volunteers also assist with the planned activities (example: playing catch, retrieving equipment), equipment clean up, marketing, and fund raising details.
As a volunteer, you may help during sessions by lead/working with horses at your comfort level, encouraging the riders, helping to ensure rider safety, demonstrate exercises, playing games, listening and helping the rider listen and follow directions, help riders work on social & motor skills, sing songs, help shovel the smelly stuff, clerical work, and more.
We also need assistance with items such as marketing, communication with participants and volunteers, fundraising, publicity, and more!
